4th of July – Patriotic Poncho

4th of July

Patriotic Poncho

Its been awhile since I made a “holiday” pattern and 2 years since I made and released the pattern for Betsy Ross Vest… So I figured it was time for a fresher, newer pattern. 🙂

The Patriotic Poncho is made using 2 Stitch types.. A Block Stitch & a Fan stitch. The front is slightly shorter than the back and all together shorter than a normal poncho.. for those hot summer nights.

The Block Stitch – I used was a graph I found.. Here – Tejiendo Peru   I did modify it just a tad at the beginning and end of the white rows. Her chart is for reference as in the pattern I have written out the steps.

The Fan Stitch –  Also a graph which I modified a bit at the beginning and end.

Fan Stitch Found .. Here

Instructions are also part of pattern.. this is for reference.

With that being said… On to the pattern 😉

What you will need..

4 Lion Brand Comfy Cotton Blend

  • 1 cake Poppy
  • 1 cake Whipped Cream
  • 2 cakes Spectrum

9mm hook

Tapestry Needle, scissors, measuring tape

Abbreviations….

CH. – Chain

SC – Single Crochet

DC – Double Crochet

SK – Skip Stitch

Number before Abbreviation– Place that many stitches in One stitch

Number After Abbreviation — How many total times

*to* – repeat the steps between asterisk ‘s

( number) – total number of rows or stitches

–  between abbreviations is all Stitches done in one stitch

Notes..

Yarn Issue……I didn’t have a issue with the color Poppy but Spectrum had a “bleeding” issue. While working with it… my hand holding the yarn turned blue… It washed off immediately, it wasn’t a permanent stain.. but it did cause me concern for washing the finished Item. When I went to wash the finished poncho.. I used 3 Shout Color catcher sheet and cold water on delicate. To my grateful surprise, there wasn’t much bleeding and what did bleed out was caught by the sheets.

When doing the Block stitch portion of pattern… Place your stitches in the space, not in the stitch ( around the whole stitch)

Fringe.. I applied Fringe to side of Red Panels only.. You may use any combination or any amount of fringe you like.. you can even omit using the fringe.

4th of July Boho PonchoFringe

If you choose to use the fringe I cut the pieces into 10 inch strands.. fold them in half and thread threw the SC on the sides.
