Crochet X-Stitch .. How To

UPDATED!!

X-Stitch How To

This year I have decided I need to and want to broaden my Stitch Knowledge. I seem to have run into a rut where I’m always using the same few stitch techniques along with of-course the basic crochet stitches. I will see a “new to me” stitch, it becomes my favorite, use it on everything, stuck in a rut… eegads So I dug out some old books and I randomly picked a stitch technique and went for it 🙂 First up is the X-Stitch. I will be showing you the Original Version and Discuss my Modified version for the X’s & O’s Scarf pattern…. Release coming Soon 😉

To gauge how many chains you need for the X-Stitch I have broken it down for you..

To do the actual Stitch requires 4 chains and 1 chain for the Skip between X’s = 5 chains per X. I added 5 more chains so I would be able to make a Triple at beginning of row and end of row.

For this tutorial I chained 20 to complete 3 X’s with a triple at either end.

Step one …  Chain 20

Step 2: Yarn over 2 times, insert hook into 5th chain from hook, yarn over- pull through chain, yarn over pull threw 2 loops on hook.

Step 3: You now have 3 loops on hook. Yarn over, skip 2 chains, Insert hook into 3rd chain

Step 4: Yarn over pull through chain.. and now you have 4 loops on hook.

Step 5: Yarn over and pull through 2 loops on hook, yarn over pull through 2 loops.. You should have 3 loops on hook and 2 “SC”‘s … Note, at this point take note of this join of the 2 Sc’s

Step 6: Yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook, Yarn over pull through 2 loops on hook. Your X should look like the photo above at this point.

Step 7: Chain 2 ( first photo). Remember the mental note you took of the join of the 2 SC’s?? You will Yarn over and insert the hook in the 2 strands (one from each SC) at that join. ( second photo) Now Yarn over pull through the 2 strands, 3 loops on hook… Yarn over pull through 2, yarn over pull through last 2..

You have finished your first X-Stitch.. to continue.. Skip a stitch and repeat steps until you come to last chain.. do a Triple Crochet in last chain.

You have now done a whole row of X-Stitch!! 🙂 Yeahhh you!! Congrats.

For X’s & O’s Scarf you will need to know the above to make the scarf.. however I modified it just a tad for the Scarf Pattern. For the Scarf pattern…

Where Stated Modified in pattern you will be omitting …

1.) In Step 3 instead of Skip 2 chains and insert in 3rd… You will only Skip 1 Chain and insert hook in 2nd chain.

2.) There will be no Skips on second row of X’s also.

Learning the Basic stitch will make it easier to understand “Notes” in pattern.

Any Questions or Concerns please feel free to contact me 🙂

Thank You.. Til Next Time Have a Wonderful Day 🙂
