Quick Last Minute Xmas Gift – C2C Washcloth/ Pot Holder

Super Quick Last Minute Gift

W.EQuickXmas

Whether you use them as small wash cloths or Pot Holders, these Corner 2 Corner ( C2C ) “squares” work up fast and are still attractive 😉

The modification I do with the C2C gives these squares a little bit of a more unique look. To me there is more texture to them verses the traditional way of make a C2C. By doing this for this project, it gives more grip and less slip for Pot Holders and for Wash Cloths it gives it a bit of scrubby power.

The above White/Speckled Square is made the “traditional” C2C way, where as the Green & Red are done in my version.

You may use any color you wish for these squares. However, I recommend only using 100% Cotton yarn. Cotton is easier to clean, more durable and will not melt. When making any Kitchen item it is safest to use cotton.

If you plan of making these squares into pot holders you will need to make them in pairs so 2 can be sewn together. One pot holder is not quite thick enough, plus with it being double there is less chances for accidental burns. I have always doubled up my pot holders 😉

These squares can also be made to your desire of size. No set rule on how big your square should be.

Pattern for these squares comes out to be a approx. 6×6 after border.

What you will need…

5mm Hook

1 skein of ..I Love This Cotton can do several squares ( found @ Hobby Lobby )

Tapestry Needle, Scissors

Abbreviations…

CH = Chain

Sl St= Slip Stitch

DC = Double Crochet

Notes…

Sl St in this pattern counts as a Ch.1 when working the blocks.

Gauge should be kept snug and consistent

When doing the border make sure you evenly place your stitches around and count your stitches, So that you will have the same amount of stitches on each side of square (if you are making a Pot Holder) when sewing them together.

ROW 3… You will continue this pattern til you have reached your desired measurement. For this pattern you will do 7 complete rows.. at the end of the 8th row you will begin the decreasing.

Step 1.) Ch.5, 3rd Ch. from Hook DC, DC next 2 stitches

Step 2.) Turn. Sl St in top on previous row block ( Ch.3 Space),

Step 3.) Ch.2, DC 3 times into Ch.3 Space, Sl St in next block Ch.3 space

Step 4.) Ch.2, DC 3 times into Ch.3 Space, Sl St into next block Ch.3 Space

Step 5.) Ch.2, DC 3 times into Ch.3 Space.

You will now repeat ROW 3 steps til you have done a total of 8 rows.

Pic #1- End of row 8… Pic #2 – Beginning of Decrease

Row 8.) When you get to end of row 8 you will start the decrease in rows. You will Sl St into top of last blocks Ch.3 Space, Turn Work and Sl St in each of the 3DC you just made, Then Slightly turn work and Sl St into Ch 3 space. ( this counts as a Ch.)

Now resume making your blocks .. Ch.2, 3DC’s into Ch.3 space, Sl St into next blocks Ch.3, etc til you reach end of row.

Keep repeating the Sl St, Turn, Sl St next 3 DC’s, Sl St into Ch.3 at the end of every row while you decrease.

When you get to the End of your Square, the last block, you will do the Sl St, turn, Sl St next 3 till you come to the corner. You will now start your border.

Evenly space your stitches around your square. I used Half Double Crochets and did 2HDC’s in each block as I went around. Make sure you do the same technique for both squares if you are going to make a pot holder. You want the border stitches to line up when you go to sew them together.

When you sew them together… I Single Crocheted mine.. When you come to the end, Sl St into your first SC then Chain 8, Sl St back into same SC and tie off. This makes a little handle to hang it up ( optional )
